| Brief Description |
The first three days of the course deals with the standards covering the manufacture & installation of electrical/instrument equipment and their protection concepts, which may be exposed to a potentially flammable atmosphere. The final two days assesses, practically and theoretically the competence of the delegates.

| To refresh delegates' knowledge and understanding on the terminology and protection concepts for electrical/instrument equipment utilised in a potentially flammable atmosphere. |

- Should understand that electrical/instrument equipment can be a source of ignition that could contribute to an explosion.
- Should understand the concept of Area Classification and the need to zone flammable atmospheres accordingly.
- Describe briefly heater treaters
- Should understand the terminology and definitions associated with hazardous areas.
- Should understand the various protection concepts namely EExd, EExe, ExN, EExn, EExia & EExib, EExp, EExo, EExq and EEXm.
- Should be able to identify problems with electrical/instrument equipment installed in hazardous areas with respect to the appropriate NEC, ATEX and IEC Standards.

- Should be able to recommend the remedial action required to maintain electrical/instrument hazardous area equipment to meet the required standards.
- Should have been refreshed sufficiently on the subject to be able to successfully complete the practical and theoretical assessments.
- Should be able to select the protection concept, enclosure/equipment, glands and ancillary components and install correctly in hazardous areas.
- Overview of Area Classifications zone 0, 1 and 2.
- Gas Groups and Temperature Classes.
- Protection concepts - EExd, EExe, ExN, EExn, EExia & EExib, EExp, EExo, EExq and EEXm
- Selection of apparatus, cabling, gland and termination requirements.
- Inspection of equipment and systems to IEC 60079-17
- Standards
- Brief overview of the NEC 500 & ATEX Directives.

- An OCS certificate of attendance will be issued if the method of assessment is limited to self-assessment
