The course is designed primarily for personnel with a background and a working knowledge of electrical installations, maintenance & inspection. However, such a background is not required and other personnel may benefit. |
| Brief Description |
The course is intended to impart a basic awareness of the standards relating to the construction, proper installation, and inspection of electrical/instrument equipment which may be exposed to a potentially flammable or explosive atmospheres. A portion of the course is devoted to teaching – and providing practical experience in – inspecting and finding faults with such equipment.

- Knowledge of applicable standards and recommended practices
- Knowledge of Area Classification and their meanings
- Understanding of the terminology and definitions associated with hazardous areas
- Knowledge of the various equipment protection concepts for use in hazardous areas

- Identify problems with electrical equipment installed in hazardous areas with respect to the appropriate US, European and global (IEC) Standards.
- Recognize the suitability of equipment and components – i.e. cable glands – and proper installation methods for electrical equipment installed in hazardous areas
