The course is designed primarily for personnel with an electrical background. A working knowledge and experience of electrical installation and inspection is required. |
| Brief Description |
The course is intended to impart an awareness of the industrial standards relating to the construction, proper installation, and inspection of electrical/instrument equipment which may be exposed to potentially flammable or explosive dust atmospheres. The first day of the course looks at electrical/instrument equipment, which may be exposed to a combustible dust. The second day provides assessments, which may result in the award of competency certificate.

- Appreciate that electrical items can be a source of ignition that could cause a dust explosion
- Knowledge of applicable standards and recommended practices
- Knowledge of Area Classification and their meanings
- Understand what is meant by zones, temperature factors, ingress protection codes
- Understanding of the terminology and definitions associated with dust hazardous areas
- Knowledge of the various equipment protection concepts for use in dust hazardous areas

- Identify problems with electrical equipment installed in hazardous areas with respect to the appropriate US, European and global (IEC) Standards.
- Recognize the suitability of equipment and components – i.e. cable glands – and proper installation methods for electrical equipment installed in hazardous areas
