- Define the elements present in hydrocarbon compounds
- Explain ionic and covalent bonding
- Distinguish between saturated and unsaturated hydrocarbons
- Write organic chemical formulae and name compounds from their structure
- Demonstrate ability to classify hydrocarbons
- Understand the chemistry of petroleum
- Define and describe common hydrocarbon polymers
- Recognize the suitability of equipment and components – i.e. cable glands – and proper installation methods for electrical equipment installed in hazardous areas
