Aim This course is designed to provide delegates with an understanding of the chemistry of simple and complex hydrocarbon compounds
Brief Description The course is intended to impart an awareness of the Basic hydrocarbon chemistry.

Course Objectives
At the end of the course delegates,
Should be able to:
  • Define the elements present in hydrocarbon compounds
  • Explain ionic and covalent bonding
  • Distinguish between saturated and unsaturated hydrocarbons
  • Write organic chemical formulae and name compounds from their structure
  • Demonstrate ability to classify hydrocarbons
  • Understand the chemistry of petroleum
  • Define and describe common hydrocarbon polymers
  • Recognize the suitability of equipment and components – i.e. cable glands – and proper installation methods for electrical equipment installed in hazardous areas

NB:
  1. If the method of assessment is limited to self-assessment, an OCS certificate of attendance will be issued.
  2. Where a delegate fails to meet the formal assessment criteria, an attendance certificate will be awarded and the case discussed with the client.
